Fred Hollows Reserve

All that you can possibly see.

If you live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the Fred Hollows reserve is a great and short trail to get little legs into hiking. Its only 450m one way but it is lush and full of beautiful birds singing their melodies as a few crawlies greet you along the path.

Escape into this mini jungle

Its nestled in Randwick and has two access points. One is from Allison road between St Marks road and Glen avenue. The other one, is at the top of Clovelly road on Bligh pl. Entrance via Allison road is best for those driving to the to the trail. Park along Allison road, find the trail and encourage little ones to find spider webs, listen to the bird sounds and try and spot lizards.

I must add that there are a lot of stairs (not wheel chair accessible) but with a good dose of patience, toddlers and preschoolers can manage it just fine.

A  picnic at the top of the trail is a good way to break up the hike and give little ones a break before heading back to your car. If up to it, you can venture on to Clovelly road and explore a few of the little cafes in the area. Its an easy 1km hike that is toddler friendly with a great dose of fresh air. I take my 21/2 year old here any time I get a chance. It helps her build her stamina and confidence and each time I notice  an increase in her endurance when we do slightly longer hikes. See you on the trail.

Lots of steps. Ask the little ones to count them. Helps them get to the top without complaining.
